Adding a better map feature to the Dreamforce Events App to make navigation easier for attendees

At Dreamforce 2019, I was the Digital Lead on the agency side to help Salesforce add a map feature into their existing on-site event app used by attendees.
My role involved managing the following:

  • Prioritizing tasks with PM lead on Client side

  • Brainstorming and narrowing down ideas that could be implemented within a 12 week timeframe

  • Managing a team of 3 on the agency side and one person on the client side to get all creative assets produced for the new feature

Key Results

  • Over a 12 week period we delivered a great creative solution for navigation and around 50 illustrated assets with Geo location coordinates to help build the map feature in the events app

  • The event app saw a 30% rise in usage across Dreamforce 2019 which was attributed to the new map feature that was implemented.


Process

Brief - Ideation - Design - Development - Test - Deploy

Our process started with the brief so we could assess what needed to get done. We then tackled the first big work stream, which was to collect all latitude and longitude coordinates for all 17 buildings hosting Dreamforce sessions and events. I hired a freelancer to do all this data collection, data management and data entry.

In parallel, I had to start connecting with all the teams across the agency working on various buildings to collect and manage floor-plans. There were a lot of moving pieces os it was very critical for me to be organized, concise and hold people to deadlines.

 

The next big step was to illustrate all the floor-plans and all the special buildings we had to feature. I managed a team of two creatives to get more than 50 illustrations done. It was very important to ensure they were all factually accurate, showed relevant detail and (most importantly) on brand

This was a challenging timeline but we got all our assets done, got the map feature into testing, ironed out all the bugs and got the feature up and running with some time to spare before the event.
